Dinner Party for Fourteen

Hosting a dinner party for fourteen last week was no easy feat but luckily it turned out to be a huge success. I was quite proud of the way my table looked too. Cutlery, cloth napkins and candles from Brissi. Centrepieces from Kensington Flowers

David Lynch Opens Club Silencio Paris

I stopped by the David Lynch interior designed Club Silencio while in Paris this past week and it definitely has its intriguing elements - long gold corridors, a room full of synthetic trees, and carpets resembling something between an animal skin and a muted Jackson Pollock. But the brand new boite seems to miss the mark when it comes to the essentials with a tacky mirrored dance floor area and fluorescent bar that both look a bit cheap. Somehow the smoking room was the most intriguing; dark, dimly lit, and intimate; but no thanks to the close relationship between Parisians and their cigarettes it'll make you want to gauge your eyes out if you enter. Halfway empty on the two nights I popped in, this newcomer has not yet caught on, but only time will tell if the Mulholland Drive inspired venue will lure in the type of clientele with that certain je ne sais quoi to make this the next Parisian hot spot. If it plays its cards right over the imminent Paris fashion week perhaps we'll soon embrace the cheap-chic vibe and spend many nights reveling in its glam-trash glory.

Carven Fall/Winter 2011

Hurricane Irene finally broke the excruciating humidity in NY allowing me to squeeze in some last-ditch summery activities like a tennis match. Up until now I've been kicking myself because I hadn't picked up a racket all summer. Yet somehow I'm still managing to think about the season ahead. Perhaps it's because I'm flying to London tomorrow where the weather will no doubt be drearier. I'm obsessed with all things Carven for fall. Net-a-porter stocks some of their best pieces, as does Dover Street Market in London. Check out their website www.carven.fr and swoon.

Vince Leather Trim Sweater Coat

All this gloomy Hurricane Irene action in NY has me pining for fall (Tomorrow I'll be back wanting to drag out the last few days of summer, promise). But in the meantime I started lusting over this simple, leather-trim, sweater coat from Vince. It reminds me of a piece I invested in from Ina a few years ago that I still adore. But with my Ina number I have to wear a belt whereas the Vince piece has a convenient single button closure. It's also made of wool, alpaca, cashmere and 25% yak. That's right, yak.
