I stopped by the David Lynch interior designed Club Silencio
while in Paris this past week and it definitely has its intriguing elements -
long gold corridors, a room full of synthetic trees, and carpets resembling
something between an animal skin and a muted Jackson Pollock. But the brand new
boite seems to miss the mark when it comes to the essentials with a tacky mirrored
dance floor area and fluorescent bar that both look a bit cheap. Somehow the
smoking room was the most intriguing; dark, dimly lit, and intimate; but no
thanks to the close relationship between Parisians and their cigarettes it'll make
you want to gauge your eyes out if you enter. Halfway empty on the two nights I
popped in, this newcomer has not yet caught on, but only time will tell if the Mulholland
Drive inspired venue will lure in the type of clientele with that certain je ne
sais quoi to make this the next Parisian hot spot. If it plays its cards right
over the imminent Paris fashion week perhaps we'll soon embrace the cheap-chic
vibe and spend many nights reveling in its glam-trash glory.
